At a press conference on September 4, 2014, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Professor Małgorzata Omilanowska, Director of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz, Director of the Gdynia Film Festival Leszek Kopeć, and Artistic Director of the Festival Michał Oleszczyk announced the Main Competition Jury at this year’s Gdynia Film Festival.

The following members constitute the Jury: Ryszard Bugajski (Polish screenwriter and film director), Alexandru Baciu (Romanian screenwriter and director), Tom Davia (distribution specialist in Hollywood), Maggie Lee (film critic at American Variety), Grzegorz Łoszewski (Polish screenwriter), Maria Sadowska (Polish screenwriter and singer), Omar Sangare (Polish American actor, director, and writer), Olga Tokarczuk (Polish writer), and Małgorzata Zajączkowska (Polish film and theatre actress).

The Festival is an annual event held in Poland since 1974. The main prize is the Golden Lion, presented to the most visionary artists for their outstanding films presented as part of the Festival Competition. Some of the past winners of the Golden Lion include: Jerzy Antczak, Agnieszka Holland, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Marek Koterski, Jerzy Skolimowski, Andrzej Wajda, and Krzysztof Zanussi.


The 39th Gdynia Film Festival is the largest film event in Poland. Between September 15th and 20th, audiences will have a chance to watch the best films in various sections of the competition, and enjoy the program that also includes screening of young cinema, retrospectives, independent cinema, lectures, and workshops, as well as outdoor screenings, concerts, and exhibitions.
